County Mayor’s Notes – March 29th, 2020

You ARE safer at home! Please stay home to the greatest extent possible.

As of this writing, I have been notified by the TN Department of Health (TDH) that nine residents of Cumberland County have tested positive for COVID-19, the novel coronavirus.  That is an increase of three since Thursday, March 26.  As I have previously mentioned, contact tracing is standard in all cases, so if you have been in close contact with someone that has tested positive, you will be notified.  That is all the information that has been released at this time.  The expanded capability of testing at the Health Department and primary care facilities will likely continue to show increases in positive tests.  The Health Department will continue testing Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. For more information call 931-484-6196.

Please keep yourself safe.  Follow the guidelines that we have been talking about for weeks.  You can help to slow the spread.  That isn’t just a sentiment, it is the truth.  Please do your part.

Storms
The strong storms early this morning brought a lot of damage, trees down, and power outages.  Thankfully, at this time, there have been no reports of serious injury, but we did have some lacerations, bumps and bruises.  I want to thank our EMA staff and first responders for working so hard to keep us informed and safe.  I also want to thank all of those that have been out working to clean up and try to get our area safe, and VEC for responding quickly and working to get the power back on.  There are still over 4,000 without power but VEC is diligently working to repair all the issues.

Soil Testing
This is an extremely busy time of year for soil testing.  The county Ag Extension Office (at the Community Complex) has boxes attached to the door that individuals can pick up.  The instructions for mailing can be found on the sheet included with the box. The soil lab is still quickly processing and sending the results via email.  The office also receives a copy of the results email and the staff will be happy to go over it with you.  If you need more information, please call the office at 931-484-6743 and you will be directed to the correct agent.

Thank you for being part of the solution and thank you for the opportunity to serve as your County Mayor.  If you are interested in following the events of the county, please subscribe to my newsletter, and follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Thank you,
