CC Notes – July 16th, 2018

CC Notes – July 16th, 2018
The July 16, 2018 meeting was a short one with only one item on the agenda.  All Commissioners were present for the meeting except Nancy Hyder, Terry Carter, Roy Turner, and John Patterson.

Resolutions
The only resolution of the evening was accepting the Cumberland County Hazard Mitigation Plan.  The plan is used to provide a strategy for developing actions that can help reduce long-term risks to people and property from natural hazard events here in our county.  The plan was approved by the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  It also assigns maintenance coordination to the Crossville/Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency.  Cumberland County, Crab Orchard, Crossville, Pleasant Hill and the Cumberland County School system all participated in drafting the plan update.  This plan is required by federal law to be submitted to TEMA and FEMA every five years.  The updated plan was approved 14-0.

The County Attorney noted that the Spirit Broadband case has been settled.  Spirit Broadband has agreed to pay the county $100,000, with $50,000 due now and the balance before the end of the year. Spirit Broadband has also decided to franchise directly with the state of Tennessee, taking Cumberland County out of the process.

Financial Report
The budget for 2018 – 2019 is about to be wrapped up and final numbers for the 2017-2018 are not complete.  While the information we have is limited, we do know that the EMS collections came in at just over $4,000,000 against a budgeted number of $3,900,000.  Sales tax is still about $20,000 down with the final numbers due around July 20th.
